Definition:  Theravada Buddhism is the teachings of the Buddha, which has been memorized, communally recited (at 6 historical Buddhist Councils), organized and compiled in the Tipitaka, transmitted through an unbroken lineage of Bhānakas (monks who devoted their lives for the preservation of the Buddhist teachings through an oral transmission) for centuries and finally documented teachings.

Principal countries where Theravada Buddhism is being practiced for centuries are Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Bangladesh Chittagong, and Laos. Currently, Theravada Buddhism has reached the global audience transcending its traditional and geographical isolation.
